Professor Dr. Brendan Mcquillan

Biography

Brendan McQuillan is currently the Dean and Head of the Medical School at the University of Western Australia (UWA), where he also leads the Department of Echocardiography in the Cardiovascular Medicine at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. His academic journey includes a PhD in vascular biology from the Heart Research Institute of WA, postdoctoral research at Harvard University, and a fellowship in Echocardiography at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He has supervised ten advanced trainees in cardiology and remains actively involved in training basic trainees in internal medicine through the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. McQuillan has received recognition for his teaching, including nominations for various teaching awards. His research interests are primarily focused on cardiovascular disease, atherosclerosis, and cardiovascular genetics, demonstrated through extensive participation in clinical trials and leadership roles within numerous research projects. McQuillan's expertise has garnered him invitations to speak at prominent scientific meetings and committees, establishing him as an emerging leader in his field.
