Dr. Brendan Taylor

Biography

Brendan Taylor is a Professor of Strategic Studies and Head of the Strategic Defence Studies Centre at the Coral Bell School of Asia Pacific Affairs. He specializes in great power strategic relations, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region, and focuses on East Asian flashpoints and Asian security architecture. His work has been featured in leading academic journals such as Survival, Washington Quarterly, and International Affairs. Taylor is the author and editor of 14 books, including 'Four Flashpoints: Asia Goes to War' and 'Dangerous Decade: Taiwan’s Security Crisis Management'. He is also a regular op-ed contributor for publications like the Australian Financial Review and the East Asia Forum Strategist. His qualifications include a Bachelor of Social Science (Honours) from Waikato University, a Master’s degree from the Australian National University, and a PhD also from ANU. His research interests encompass East Asian flashpoints, the US-Australia alliance, and the architecture of Asia-Pacific security. Throughout his career, he has been involved in numerous research projects aimed at understanding the complexities of international relations in this vital region.
