Biography

Brent Iverson has had an independent research career focusing on the interface of Chemistry and Biology. He teaches popular undergraduate Organic Chemistry courses, including a Signature Course entitled 'The Science of Happiness.' Throughout his career, he has held several administrative positions at the University of Texas, serving as the Department Chair for nine years and as Dean of the School of Undergraduate Studies, now known as the Undergraduate College. Iverson is also a co-author of a widely used Organic Chemistry textbook, currently in its ninth edition published by Cengage. He is recognized for his contributions to academic science as a national board member of the Research Corporation for Science Advancement, the oldest foundation in the country dedicated to supporting academic science. Additionally, he serves on the Board of Directors for Kesem, a national university-based program with 130 chapters focused on serving the needs of children affected by cancer. His research laboratory is dedicated to the interdisciplinary design, study, and evolution of large complex molecular systems, blending chemistry, molecular biology, medicine, and materials science. Current research interests include Vaccines and/or Therapeutics and Materials Science, with connections to Texas Materials Institute.
