Biography

Brent Liu earned his Ph.D. in Biomedical Physics from the University of California, Los Angeles, and subsequently completed post-doctoral research at UCLA. He has been instrumental in the field of medical imaging informatics, leading projects focused on automatic image segmentation, noise smoothing techniques, and the development of software tools for capturing medical imaging data. From 1999 to 2002, he played a pivotal role in implementing fully filmless Picture Archiving Communication Systems (PACS) at a community hospital and later at the UCLA Healthcare system. Liu's contributions extend to educational initiatives, where he administers the Biomedical Imaging Informatics Training Program and leads graduate-level courses in medical imaging systems integration and informatics. His research areas include PACS usability, imaging informatics in various medical fields, and the development of electronic patient records with decision support tools. Liu has also received several awards for his contributions to imaging education, including multiple Certificate Merit Awards from the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA).
