Dr. Brent Liu

Biography

Brent Liu earned a Doctorate in Biophysics from the University of California, Los Angeles, and has extensive experience in medical imaging informatics and PACS (Picture Archiving Communication Systems). His research covers a broad spectrum of areas, including medical imaging informatics, imaging technology, and fault-tolerant design of clinical systems. Liu's prior work included developing automatic image segmentation systems and image-processing applications aimed at enhancing the usability of medical imaging systems. He has also worked on various projects to implement filmless PACS in clinical settings, collaborating with multiple healthcare centers. Over the past five years, he has taken an active role in training students in Biomedical Imaging Informatics, guiding them in research that bridges engineering and medicine. Liu is involved in academic teaching at the graduate level, focusing on curriculum related to medical imaging systems and informatics. His research agenda includes exploration of the integration of imaging informatics methodologies in oncology and neurology fields to improve clinical outcomes and support longitudinal research.
