Biography

Brent Neiman is the Edward Eagle Brown Professor at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, specializing in international macroeconomics, finance, and trade. He served as a Counselor to the U.S. Treasury Secretary, focusing on international economic issues, including the U.S.-China bilateral relationship and responses to global crises like Russia’s war in Ukraine. His research interests include international macroeconomics, finance, and trade, and he acts as a co-director of the International Economics and Economic Geography Initiative at the Becker Friedman Institute. Neiman also participates as a Research Associate with the National Bureau of Economic Research and has contributed to prestigious journals such as the American Economic Review and the Quarterly Journal of Economics. His career includes positions as an economist with the White House Council of Economic Advisers and roles at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and McKinsey & Company. Neiman was awarded the Sloan Research Fellowship and has received recognition as one of Chicago Council on Global Affairs' “Emerging Leaders.” He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and a Bachelor’s in Applied Science from the University of Pennsylvania, a Master’s degree from Oxford University, and a Ph.D. from Harvard University. Neiman has been a faculty member at Chicago Booth since 2008, bringing enthusiasm for both teaching and research.
