Biography

Brent Ryan is a Departmental Research Lecturer at the University of Oxford, focusing on the molecular mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease. He leads research initiatives at the Oxford Parkinson’s Disease Centre, utilizing patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) to explore the vulnerabilities of neurons. His lab employs advanced proteomics and high-throughput biology techniques to investigate mitochondrial and lysosomal dysfunctions contributing to neurodegeneration. Brent received his PhD from the University of Exeter, where he studied oxidative post-translational modifications and their role in autoimmune conditions. His career at the University of Oxford began in 2010, and he has since developed innovative assays to measure neuronal health and cellular stress, aiming to uncover pathways that may lead to new therapeutic interventions. In 2023, he was awarded the MRC New Investigator Research Grant, recognizing his contributions to high-throughput screening methods for Parkinson’s disease research.
