Biography

Brett Kingsbury enjoys a diverse performing career as a soloist and collaborative artist. An accomplished pianist, he is a member of the Madawaska Chamber Ensemble and has performed extensively with great acclaim, collaborating with ensembles and performers such as the Borealis and Penderecki String Quartets, as well as members of the Hamilton Philharmonic and Toronto Symphony Orchestras, including the violinist David Gillham. He has performed at the Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber Music Society and the University of Toronto's Scarborough Campus, presenting works like Ferruccio Busoni's 'Fantasia Contrappuntistica', which was a significant topic of his doctoral dissertation. Currently, he teaches studio piano, Performance Research, and Piano Literature as an assistant professor at the Don Wright Faculty of Music at Western University. In addition to his research and teaching, which focuses on exploring how music theory and history can enrich performers’ understanding of music performance, Brett has also served as a sessional lecturer at the University of Toronto Scarborough and was a former faculty member at Brock University. He is also an active adjudicator for festivals across the province. A student at the University of British Columbia, he was named a R. Howard Webster Fellow at Green College. Brett studied under Leslie Kinton at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto and received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree while studying with Robert Silverman at the University of British Columbia.
