Biography

Brian Bell is a Professor in the School of Architecture at the Georgia Institute of Technology and the founding partner of the firm BLDGS. He teaches advanced design studios to graduate-level students, focusing on developing their understanding of critical reciprocities and the potentials of urban architectural design, particularly in mixed-use urban housing projects. Bell has also taught workshops on digital 'living' walls. Since joining Georgia Tech in 2007, he served as the Paul Rudolph Visiting Critic at Auburn University. His firm, BLDGS, is a full-service architectural practice dedicated to the creation of inventive and enduring works of architecture and urban design. Recent significant projects include the Van Leer Interdisciplinary Design Commons and the Caddell School of Building Construction at Georgia Tech, offices for Bloomberg LP, and private residences. Bell's work has been widely published and recognized nationally and internationally, and he has presented at numerous conferences. Prior to his academic career, he worked for seven years at Mack Scogin Merrill Elam Architects as a Senior Project Architect on award-winning projects such as the Hargrove Music Library at UC Berkeley and the Gates Center for Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University.
