Biography

Brian began his career as an associate under Tony Mandamin in Edmonton, Alberta, before starting his own practice in areas such as Aboriginal law, small business and non-profit law, real estate, and personal injury. He has been actively involved in community economic development initiatives with Aboriginal agencies, organizations, and entrepreneurs for many years. From 2003 to 2021, Brian held the role of Program Director for the Indigenous Leadership Programs at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, where he developed the Wise Practices model for training and development in Indigenous leadership and governance, focusing on community economic development. He has developed and taught courses as a sessional instructor at the School of Native Studies at the University of Alberta and for the Faculty of Communication and Culture at the University of Calgary. His current research interests include the Indigenous legal profession, Indigenous leadership, management and governance, Indigenous law, and Indigenous economic development. Brian is a member of the Sucker Creek Nation in northern Alberta.
