Biography

Brian Dempsey is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at Western University. He holds a B.Sc. from McMaster University and a Ph.D. from the University of Western Ontario. His post-doctoral research includes work at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, where he used NMR biophysical techniques to understand protein export mechanisms in bacteria and explored the production of therapeutic proteins in plant-based systems. Dempsey has also investigated the function of calcium-binding proteins in membrane repair and brain-signaling pathways. As a faculty member at the University of Lethbridge and the University of Western Ontario, he was involved in mentoring undergraduate and high-school student teams in developing synthetic biology solutions for real-world problems.
