Dr. Brian Draper

Biography

Professor Brian Draper is a Conjoint Professor at the School of Psychiatry, University of New South Wales (UNSW) and a Consultant Psychiatrist specializing in older persons' mental health. With extensive experience in clinical aspects of mental health problems in old age, his primary research interests focus on dementia, particularly young onset dementia, within acute hospital settings through the Hospital Dementia Services Project. Additionally, he is interested in cognitive mental disorders among older Aboriginal Australians, carer stress, and mild cognitive impairment. Draper collaborates with various institutions across Australia, including Flinders University, Griffith University, and Macquarie University, among others. His work addresses critical issues such as depression and suicidal behavior in late life, involving collaborative efforts funded by the Australian Research Council (ARC) and the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC). He also serves as an associate investigator on the LifeSpan project, which aims to improve suicide prevention. His academic qualifications include an MB BS and MD from UNSW, and he is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP).
