Biography

Brian Fuehrlein graduated from the MD-PhD program at the University of Florida in 2008 and completed his adult psychiatry residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in 2012. He then pursued an addiction psychiatry fellowship at Yale University, which he completed in 2013. Currently, he serves as an Associate Professor and Director of the Psychiatric Emergency Room at the VA Connecticut Healthcare System. His primary interests lie in medical student and resident education, especially in the field of addiction psychiatry. He is actively involved in numerous local and national committees. Fuehrlein has received multiple accolades for his contributions to psychiatry education, including the Irma Bland Award for Excellence in Psychiatric Resident Education from the American Psychiatric Association in 2017 and the Clerkship Faculty Teaching Award for Outstanding Medical Student Educator in 2018. He is passionate about emergency psychiatry and substance use disorders, with significant work focusing on opioid use disorder in emergency settings. In 2019, he was inducted into the American College of Psychiatrists in recognition of his clinical practice, research, academic leadership, and teaching.
