Brian Gunter is an associate professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Rice University and earned his M.S. and Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, specializing in orbital mechanics. Before joining Georgia Tech, he was a faculty member at the Delft University of Technology (TU-Delft) in the Netherlands, where he was part of the Physical Space Geodesy section. His research focuses on spacecraft mission applications, including studies on current and future laser altimetry missions, monitoring changes in polar ice sheets through satellite data, and the applications of satellite constellations and formations. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses covering satellite orbit determination, Earth and planetary observation, scientific applications of GPS, and space systems design. He is a member of the AIAA Astrodynamics Technical Committee and serves as the Geodesy chair for the Fall AGU Meeting Program Committee. His work has earned him the NASA Group Achievement Award for the GRACE mission, and he holds distinctions including Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and membership in the American Geophysical Union (AGU) and the International Association of Geodesy (IAG).
