Dr. Brian Hayden

Biography

Brian Hayden is an Associate Professor and the Director of the Stable Isotopes Nature Laboratory at the University of New Brunswick. He earned his PhD from University College Dublin in 2009 and later conducted post-doctoral research at Queen's University Belfast and the University of Helsinki before joining the Biology Department at UNB in 2014. His research primarily focuses on stable isotope ecology within aquatic environments, especially concerning fish biology and community dynamics. He employs big data techniques to explore biodiversity and ecosystem function relationships on a global scale. His collaborative work spans Asia, South America, and Europe, emphasizing the application of stable isotopes in understanding the trophic ecology of American lobster in the Bay of Fundy and Atlantic salmon marine ecology. Brian has taught courses including Introduction to Ecology and Trophic Food Web Ecology. His publications highlight significant findings on ecological interactions and methodologies for studying diet and community structures in aquatic systems.
