Biography

Brian Jacob is a Professor of Economics and the Walter H. Annenberg Professor of Education Policy at the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy at the University of Michigan. He is the Director of the Center for Local, State, and Urban Policy (CLOSUP) and a Faculty Research Fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research. Jacob's research interests lie in labor economics, program evaluation, and the economics of education. His current research emphasizes urban school reform and teacher labor markets. His recent work includes exploring school choice, education accountability programs, and housing vouchers. He has previously served as a policy analyst for the NYC Mayor's Office and has experience teaching middle school in East Harlem. Jacob earned a Ph.D. in Public Policy from the University of Chicago in 2001 and graduated Magna Cum Laude with an A.B. in Social Studies from Harvard University in 1992.
