Biography

Brian Johnson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin, where he holds the Jack Kilby/Texas Instruments Endowed Faculty Fellowship. He obtained his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2010 and 2013, respectively. Prior to joining UT Austin, he served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Washington in Seattle, starting in 2018. Brian has experience as an engineer at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. His research interests include renewable energy systems, power electronics, and control systems. He co-leads the Universal Interoperability Grid-Forming Inverters (UNIFI) Consortium, funded by the U.S. Department of Energy, which aims to advance grid-forming inverter technologies. Brian's contributions to the field have been recognized through the National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Award in 2022.
