Biography

Brian Kavanaugh is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at Alpert Medical School of Brown University and a pediatric neuropsychologist at Bradley Hospital. He is board-certified in clinical neuropsychology with a subspecialty in pediatric clinical neuropsychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology. Dr. Kavanaugh completed his doctoral degree in clinical psychology at Antioch University New England and underwent a pediatric neuropsychology internship at the Kennedy Krieger Institute, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. He also completed a pediatric neuropsychology fellowship at E. P. Bradley Hospital, which is part of the Alpert Medical School. His research primarily focuses on developing novel, brain-based treatments that address the neurocognitive aspects of childhood neuropsychiatric disorders. To achieve these goals, he utilizes brain imaging techniques such as MRI, brain activity recording methods like EEG, and non-invasive brain stimulation techniques such as TMS to modulate the neural dynamics that underlie neurocognitive deficits in children and adolescents. His research is currently funded by the NIMH K23 Award and several foundations, including the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation-NARSAD and the Carol Peterson Foundation.
