Biography

Brian D. Keith is an Adjunct Professor in the Cancer Biology Department at the University of Pennsylvania's Perelman School of Medicine. He has a rich academic background with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Brown University obtained in 1980 and a Ph.D. in Plant Molecular Biology from Rockefeller University in 1987. His main research interests revolve around understanding how cells and tissues adapt to oxygen deprivation, commonly referred to as hypoxia, and the mechanisms involved in modifying gene expression under such conditions. Dr. Keith has focused on the development of mouse models to study the genes that encode critical components of the hypoxic response pathway, contributing to advanced insights into the physiological and metabolic responses to tumor microenvironmental stresses. In his previous work, he has collaborated on adapting CAR-T cell therapy for solid tumors, specifically exploring the effects of the tumor microenvironment on CAR-T cell metabolism and function. His collaborations and projects aim to enhance the understanding of cancer biology through innovative research and the generation of effective therapeutic strategies.
