Biography

Brian B. Koo, MD is an Associate Professor of Neurology at Yale School of Medicine and the director of the Yale Center for Restless Legs Syndrome. He is also the director of the Sleep Medicine Program at the Connecticut Veterans Affairs Healthcare System. An internationally recognized expert in sleep-related movement disorders, particularly Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS), Dr. Koo's research focuses on the neurobiological underpinnings of RLS and associated conditions. His studies investigate the neurophysiologic significance of periodic limb movements during sleep and the role of gut inflammation in these disorders. He has served on the American Academy of Sleep Medicine task force to revise treatment guidelines for RLS and is a member of the medical advisory board for the RLS Foundation. Dr. Koo's clinical expertise encompasses a wide variety of sleep disorders including narcolepsy and sleep apnea, particularly those caused by neurological conditions. His experience and research contributions have made him a leading figure in the field, with numerous awards recognizing his work. He strives to leverage insights gained from patient care to enhance treatment strategies and further our understanding of sleep-related neurological diseases.
