Biography

After completing a spine surgery fellowship in Philadelphia in 2003, Brian Kwon earned his PhD in neuroscience from the University of British Columbia in 2004. He then commenced his academic career as a spine surgeon-scientist with a focus on acute spinal cord injury. Currently, he serves as a Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of British Columbia and works as an attending orthopaedic spine surgeon at Vancouver General Hospital. Dr. Kwon's practice emphasizes the management of adult spine trauma, spinal cord injuries, as well as non-traumatic conditions including spine infection, deformity, and degeneration. Additionally, he is the Principal Investigator at ICORD and manages an active basic and translational research laboratory, contributing significantly to advancements in the field of spinal injury research.
