Brian O'Driscoll is a Full Professor and the Newmont Chair in Economic Geology at the University of Ottawa. He has expertise as a petrologist and ore geologist, linking novel geochemical tools with field-based petrographic observations. His wide-ranging research interests include the processes of magma emplacement and crystallization within the Earth's crust, as well as melt generation and migration in the upper mantle. Dr. O'Driscoll has significantly contributed to the understanding of base and precious metal mineralization processes within the context of broad areas of magmatic petrology. His particular focus lies in the petrogenesis of chromitite, the geochemistry of platinum-group elements, and the study of layered mafic intrusions and ophiolitic rocks. He is an active member of the Executive Council of the Mineralogical Association of Canada since 2021 and is keen to hear from potential graduate students and postdoctoral researchers interested in developing projects in these fields.
