Biography

Brian O'Neill is an Associate Professor Emeritus at the University of British Columbia's School of Social Work. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Windsor, and went on to earn a Master of Social Work from Carleton University, followed by a Doctorate in Social Work from Wilfrid Laurier University. Throughout his career, he has taught various subjects including research methods at both undergraduate and graduate levels, social service management, and social work practice. His research primarily focuses on diversity in relation to gender, ethnicity, and sexuality, particularly in the context of health and social services, as well as interprofessional practice. Recently, he has been exploring the responsiveness of settlement services for lesbian, gay, and bisexual newcomers. He has contributed significantly to the academic discourse on LGBT issues in social work, including the challenges faced by these newcomers, and has published numerous works in this area, including multi-authored texts with themes around social inclusion and settlement services.
