Brian E. Power is an early music scholar, choral solo tenor, and violinist. His research publications focus on manuscript transmission and performance-practice issues related to late medieval and early Renaissance church music. He co-edited the book 'Sounds and Sights of Performance in Early Music' (Ashgate, 2009) and is currently preparing a scholarly edition of the introits from the Trent Codex 93, a manuscript source of liturgical polyphony dating from the mid-fifteenth century for A-R Editions. He is a member of the editorial board for 'Intersections: Canadian Journal of Music/Revue Canadienne de Musique' and has previously served as the Chair of the Standing Committee of Institutional Members of the Canadian University Music Society. In addition to his academic work, Dr. Power performs as a choral tenor soloist with various ensembles and church choirs across the Golden Horseshoe. He has participated in notable performances, including the North American premiere of C.H.H. Parry's oratorio 'Judith' at Toronto's Koerner Hall and the rare performance of Canadian composer Murray Schafer's monumental work 'Apocalypsis' at Toronto's Luminato Festival. His performance history includes a 2016 tour of the West Midlands in England and a 2017 performance of the Canadian premiere of Elgar's oratorio 'The Apostles', which led the Pax Christi Chorale to win the CBC/Choral Canada National Competition in the Chamber Choir category.
