Biography

Brian Seed is a Professor of Genetics at Harvard Medical School and a Principal Investigator at the Center for Computational Integrative Biology at Massachusetts General Hospital. He obtained both his B.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the California Institute of Technology. Professor Seed is an author of numerous publications in genetics and molecular biology, focusing on the development of methods and technology for genetic research. His early work contributed to the identification of cDNAs encoding many of the then-recognized lineage antigens of the immune system and enhanced the understanding of T cell activation mechanisms. He has also been pivotal in developing immunoglobulin fusion proteins and co-receptors that informed the basis for creating therapeutic fusion proteins. Seed co-founded several biotech companies, including Connetics and Phylos, and has served on the advisory boards of various organizations. His laboratory is dedicated to addressing complex gene pathways related to human diseases, with particular emphasis on developing new therapeutic entities for cancer and metabolic disorders.
