Biography

Brian Seymour is an Emeritus Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of British Columbia (UBC). He has a B.Sc. from the University of Manchester (1965) and a Ph.D. from the University of Nottingham (1969). Before joining UBC, he held positions as an Assistant Professor at New York University (1970-1973) and at UBC (1973-1976), then progressed to Associate Professor (1976-1981) and full Professor (1981-2012). He served as the Director of the Institute of Applied Mathematics at UBC from 1986 to 1993. His research focuses on Fluid Mechanics, Wave Propagation, Coastal Engineering, and Acoustics. Throughout his career, he has contributed to various publications addressing complex phenomena in these fields, including numerical modeling and resonant oscillations in fluid dynamics. His work has been published in journals such as the Journal of Fluid Mechanics, Advances in Water Resources, and Physics of Fluids.
