Dr. Brian Sorrell

Biography

Brian Keith Sorrell is an Associate Professor at Aarhus University, specializing in aquatic biology and water technology. With over 40 years of experience, he has published around 100 referred scientific papers and co-authored textbooks such as "Freshwaters New Zealand" and "Arctic Sea Ice Ecology". His research focuses on aquatic photosynthesis, primary productivity, carbon balances in wetlands, and the ecophysiology of aquatic plants. He has been involved in developing management guidelines for the protection of freshwater resources and environmental impact assessments. Sorrell has taught multiple undergraduate and graduate courses, including field courses in Greenland as part of the Arctic Study Science Program, and has successfully supervised several MSc and PhD students. He holds a PhD in Botany from the University of Auckland, with a focus on gas transport processes in aquatic systems. Sorrell is also affiliated with the Arctic Research Centre and has collaborated with various international institutions, contributing to projects related to global change and biological invasions.
