Biography

Brian E. Staveley is a Professor in the Department of Biology at Memorial University of Newfoundland. He holds a B.Sc. in Specialized Honours Genetics and M.Sc. in Molecular Biology & Genetics from the University of Guelph. He completed his Ph.D. in Genetics at the University of Alberta and a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Cellular & Molecular Biology at the Ontario Cancer Institute. Staveley's research focuses on genetic mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases, with a particular interest in using Drosophila models to study conditions like Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease. His academic contributions include mentoring graduate students through their M.Sc. and Ph.D. projects, which often investigate aspects of mitochondrial fission and aging-related gene characterization in Drosophila.
