I am a practicing emergency physician and a clinical investigator with specific training and expertise in designing and testing digital behavioral interventions. My primary research focus is on advancing the effectiveness and reach of brief alcohol interventions by using phone sensors to infer drinking events and conversational agents to improve alcohol counseling. I currently serve as the Principal Investigator for a NIH-funded study (1R01AA030986) that tests the efficacy of a text message intervention, ASPIRE, designed to address cognitive behavioral elements and modify the exposure to peers that influence drinking behaviors. The trial aims to generate unique critical information from a national sample of young adults in college regarding how close peer networks and activity spaces can change individuals' alcohol consumption habits. Additionally, I study novel methods to reduce falls in older adults by employing wearable sensors and behavioral interventions to improve mobility.
