Biography

Brian Walker is an established academic and researcher in the field of ecology with a focus on resilience in social-ecological systems and ecosystem dynamics. He completed his B.Sc. at the University of Natal in South Africa and earned his Ph.D. in ecology from the University of Saskatchewan, Canada. Walker has held various esteemed positions throughout his career, including Lecturer at the University of Zimbabwe and Professor of Botany at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. He served as Chief of the CSIRO Division of Wildlife Ecology from 1985 to 1999 and subsequently worked at CSIRO until 2005. In addition to his roles, he was the Director of the Resilience Alliance from 2000 to 2010. Currently, he is an Honorary Research Fellow at CSIRO Ecosystem Sciences and an Honorary Professor in the College of Medicine, Biology & Environment. Walker has been recognized as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science and the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering, and he is a Foreign Member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture and Forestry. His prolific contributions to research have significantly shaped understanding of ecosystem resilience and dynamics.
