Biography

Brian L. Wardle is a Full Professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), with a joint appointment in Mechanical Engineering. His research specializes in bulk nanostructured materials, particularly nanoengineered hierarchical advanced composites that enhance mechanical properties and offer multiple functionalities. He received a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from Pennsylvania State University in 1992, followed by a Master’s degree in 1995 and a Ph.D. in 1998, both from MIT. Before joining the faculty at MIT in 2003, he worked for four years at McKinsey & Company as an Associate Engagement Manager. He has authored around 100 journal articles and holds approximately 25 patents with another 50 pending. He is the Founder and Director of the NECST (Nano-Engineered Composite aerospace STructures) research group and is actively involved in several institute labs including the Institute for Soldier Nanotechnologies and the Microsystems Technology Laboratory.
