Brianna Wiens is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English Language and Literature at the University of Waterloo. She holds a PhD in Communication from York University, an MA in Communication: Rhetoric and Culture from the University of Colorado Boulder, and a BA from the University of Waterloo. Her research explores how individuals use media in critical and creative ways to foster community and resist systemic power structures. Wiens is particularly focused on the intersections of digital culture, rhetoric, and feminist media studies, emphasizing the importance of amplifying the voices of racialized, queer, and disabled communities. She collaborates with Dr. Shana MacDonald as Co-Director of the Feminist Think Tank, a research-creation collective that investigates feminist media and design.
