Biography

Brigitte Adriaensen is a Professor of Hispanic Literature and Culture at Radboud University, specializing in Latin American Cultural Studies. She obtained her PhD in 2005 from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. Adriaensen leads the project 'Poison, Medicine Magic Potion', a VICI-funded initiative analyzing the perception of peyote, ayahuasca, and coca with a team of four researchers. She was the principal investigator for the Vidi project 'The Politics of Irony in Contemporary Latin American Literature and Violence' from 2011 to 2016, which received a NWO grant. Adriaensen is also a member of the editorial board for the book series Foro Hispánico published by Brill and the journal Monteagudo. Her research interests encompass humor studies, violence studies, mad studies, and ecocriticism. Currently, she is developing new projects related to humor and law in the context of Latin American drug studies.
