Biography

Brigitte Bachmann is a Lecturer in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at Queen's University. With a focus on Italian and German language and literature, she has cultivated a significant academic and teaching career. Dr. Bachmann's research interests include the Italian language, German language, 20th-century German literature, and Jewish-German women's writings. She earned her M.A. in German language literature from Queen’s University in 2004 and a B.A. (Hons.) in the same field in 2002. Originally from Switzerland, she is multilingual, fluent in French, German, and Italian. Since moving to Canada, she has taught German to employees at a pharmaceutical company and has extensive teaching experience in both Swiss and Canadian educational institutions. In 2009, she shifted her focus to teaching Italian. Her commitment to excellence in teaching was recognized when she was nominated for the Frank Knox Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2005. She is dedicated to creating a positive and encouraging atmosphere for her students, using a variety of materials including songs and videos to broaden their understanding of language and culture. In 2022, she was honored as a Champion of Mental Health by the Queen’s Student Mental Health Network.
