Biography

Britt H. Tonnessen, MD, is an Associate Professor of Surgery specializing in Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy at Yale School of Medicine. He graduated with honors in Neuroscience from Brown University in 1994 and later obtained his medical degree from the Mayo Clinic in 1999. Dr. Tonnessen completed his general surgery residency and vascular surgery fellowship at Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans, becoming a practicing vascular surgeon in 2006. He is board certified in general vascular surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Tonnessen has expertise in both open surgical techniques and minimally invasive endovascular procedures for treating various vascular diseases. He co-authored the 5th and 6th editions of the Handbook of Patient Care in Vascular Diseases, a popular reference for students and residents. His clinical focus includes conditions affecting arteries and veins, such as carotid disease, peripheral vascular disease, and thoracic outlet syndrome. Dr. Tonnessen is dedicated to patient care and finds fulfillment in the long-term relationships he builds with his patients, especially in instances where he can significantly improve their quality of life.
