Biography

Britta Schilling is an Associate Professor in Cultural History at Utrecht University. She is the author of 'Postcolonial Germany: Memories Empire Decolonized Nation' published by Oxford University Press in 2014, and has written numerous articles on comparative histories of colonialism, memory, and material culture. She received her education in History and Art History from Brown University, Rutgers University, and the University of Oxford. Schilling was awarded a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship at the University of Cambridge, where she conducted research on colonial architecture in sub-Saharan Africa. She is a fellow at the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study and is currently working on a project researching the long shadow of empire in international business and development during the Cold War era, funded by an NWO Aspasia grant.
