Biography

Britta Tietjen is a Professor of Theoretical Ecology at the Institute of Biology, Freie Universität Berlin. Her research focuses on the influence of biodiversity on ecosystem functions across different scales, as well as the interactions between water and vegetation in dry areas. Tietjen leads several research projects including the Climate Water Change initiative and the MASCOT project which examines the critical impacts of sea-level rise on coastal wetlands. She was awarded funding from the Einstein Research Unit and the German Research Foundation (DFG) for her work on ecosystem resilience and stress responses. Tietjen has a background in applied system science and has held various academic positions, including Junior Professor and Research Associate at prominent institutions. Her educational journey began with studies in mathematics, geography, and biology at the University of Göttingen, followed by work at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK).
