Biography

Brock Smith teaches marketing entrepreneurship courses at undergraduate and graduate executive program levels at the Gustavson School of Business, University of Victoria. He joined UVic in 1991 as a founding member of the academic staff and previously served as the undergraduate program director and academic director of the hospitality management program. In 2007, he led the entrepreneurship team specialization and founded the Innovation Centre for Entrepreneurs (ICE). His research interests include entrepreneurial cognition and marketing strategy, focusing on how value is created in business contexts. His PhD work examined barriers to team selling effectiveness, and he has published extensively in leading journals such as the Journal of Marketing and Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice. Brock has been involved in various community consulting and training projects and has worked with organizations like the Victoria Foundation and the Victoria International Airport Authority. He graduated from the University of British Columbia in 1984, worked at IBM Canada in various sales and marketing positions, and completed his PhD at the Ivey School of Business, where he won the Academy of Marketing Science Doctoral Dissertation Award in 1992.
