Biography

Brockett Horne is a designer, educator, and writer whose creative work encourages audiences to question their own ways of consuming design. His clients include the Baltimore Museum of Art, Johns Hopkins University, the Decentering Whiteness working group, and Harvard University. His research interests focus on inclusive design history, typography, the power of packaging in the early 20th century, and monograms. Horne has collaborated with Louise Sandhaus and Briar Levit as Co-Directors of the Peoples Graphic Design Archive, a crowd-sourced online platform that enables new and expanded stories in graphic design history. This experimental project invites contributions to its historical narratives, rather than reserving ownership of those narratives for individuals with specific training or access to exclusive tools. The project has received multiple grants and has been presented internationally. Horne has served as chair of the Graphic Design department at MICA in Baltimore for over a decade and is passionate about teaching.
