Biography

Brooke Lober is a lecturer in Gender Women's Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. She offers classes on feminist, queer, and trans thought with an emphasis on American studies, cultural studies, and social movement history. Currently, she is working on a book-length manuscript that situates late 20th-century Jewish feminism within the context of the intertwined racial regimes of the U.S. and Israel, analyzing the impact of state formations on social movement politics and the culture of activist networks. In her work, she addresses the contemporary crisis of 'war on Palestine' and argues that current debates surrounding Jewishness, antisemitism, Zionism, and Palestine are informed by the 40 years of conflict, with a focus on feminist-queer-trans Jewish thought in light of the contemporary politics of Palestinian liberation. Brooke has conducted over 30 oral history interviews for a related project, featured on her website www.womenagainstimperialism.com. Additionally, she co-edited the two-volume anthology 'Abolition Feminisms' which examines the histories and methods of grassroots feminisms through writing, art, and documentation. Her scholarly contributions also include various publications on topics such as Jewish anti-Zionism and Palestinian feminist thought. She is actively involved in documenting the histories of marginalized voices in social movements.
