Dr. Brooke Weigel

Biography

Weigel Lab focuses on Phycology and Microbial Ecology at Stanford University, specifically the ecological and physiological responses of primary producers and microbial communities to global climate change. The laboratory conducts research on the feedbacks between climate change and marine ecosystems, with a particular interest in kelp forests, microbes, and carbon cycling in the ocean. The group employs a variety of tools and methods, including field and laboratory experiments, genomics, bioinformatics, algal culturing, and ecophysiology, to improve understanding of the impacts of climate change on nearshore marine ecosystems. Their ultimate goal is to inform conservation and management strategies for marine ecosystems as they respond to a changing climate.
