Dr. Brookes Brown

Biography

Brookes Brown is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Toronto, specializing in political social philosophy. She completed her PhD in Politics with a focus on Political Philosophy at Princeton University and also holds a JD from Yale University and a BA in Political Science from Brown University. Her research primarily explores the interplay of ethics within market exchanges and the responsibilities individuals hold in civic actions such as voting and complying with the law. She has a broad interest in business ethics and the philosophy of law. Prior to her current position, Brookes was a postdoctoral fellow in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at the University of North Carolina and served as a DeOlazarra Fellow in Political Philosophy at the University of Virginia. Her current work aims to develop and defend an account of ordinary interpersonal reciprocity, arguing for the significance of civic fairness duties in a societal context.
