Dr. Bruce Clurman is a physician and research faculty at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. He holds the Rosput Reynolds Endowed Chair and is a Professor in the Clinical Research Division, Human Biology Division, and Translational Science Therapeutics Division at Fred Hutch. Additionally, he serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Pathology at the University of Washington. Dr. Clurman completed his M.D. and Ph.D. at Cornell University Medical College and underwent residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. His clinical expertise encompasses cell cycles and molecular pathways, focusing on how these processes drive cellular proliferation and cancer progression. Dr. Clurman's research aims to unravel the fundamental regulatory pathways that influence cancer development and progression, ultimately devising novel cancer therapies that target these pathways. He is particularly interested in developing treatment strategies that exploit mutations in key growth-accelerating genes known as cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs), promoting unsustainable levels of DNA damage in cancer cells. His team is also investigating mutations in the Fbw7 gene, which regulates the destruction of tumor-driving proteins, and seeks to design drugs that restore the function of mutant Fbw7 in cancers to inhibit tumor growth.
