Biography

Born in balmy Winnipeg, I have had a peripatetic journey both geographically and intellectually. I served as an anatomy lab instructor and worked at the Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre morgue. In my role as a public school teacher in Nunavut, I enjoyed unique experiences, including breakfasts with polar bears. My background also includes being a technical communicator, where I developed skills in web document design and programming languages. Currently, I teach at the University of Waterloo, where I lead courses in rhetoric and professional writing, as well as coordinate the department's graduate teaching assistants. With a PhD in English from the University of Waterloo, my research primarily focuses on rhetorical theory, especially intercultural rhetoric and American literature. I am also involved in the Canadian Society for the Study of Rhetoric as a past president. My selected publications include works on rhetoric and visual narratives, and I have received several awards for my teaching and academic achievements.
