Biography

Professor Bruce Hinds researches nanostructures, nanoscale fabrication, electronics fabrication, and novel technologies at the molecular level including nano-lithography. He has received the NSF Early Career Award, the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, and the Kavli Frontiers of Science Fellowship from the National Academy of Sciences. His research background is in chemistry and electronic device processing. He completed his undergraduate studies in Chemistry at Harvey Mudd College in California in 1991 and obtained his Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry at Northwestern University in 1996, focusing on MOCVD growth of high-temperature superconductors. Following his doctoral work, he pursued post-doctoral research at NC State in Physics, studying the interface states of the Si/SiO2 system. In 2001, he joined the faculty of the University of Kentucky to develop a research program on functional materials at the nanoscale, with a focus on producing nano-scale materials that mimic natural processes for applications in health care, energy storage, generation, and water purification. In July 2014, he moved to the University of Washington's Materials Science & Engineering department.
