Biography

Bruce Mannheim is a Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Michigan, specializing in Linguistic Anthropology. His research interests encompass linguistic anthropology, politics and language use, social theory, poetics and narrative, historical ethnography, and Andean South America. With a comprehensive educational background, Bruce obtained his B.A. from City College-CUNY in 1972, followed by an M.A. and a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1977 and 1983, respectively. He has held notable affiliations, including the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies, and has received prestigious awards such as President of the Society for Latin American Anthropology from 1999 to 2000 and a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship in 1995-96.
