Biography

Bruce Moore is a renowned expert in Australian English and lexicography, known for his extensive contributions to the study of the English language, particularly its Australian variant. After serving as Head of the Australian National Dictionary Centre until his retirement in 1994, he continued to teach Old and Middle English Language and Literature at prestigious institutions, including the University of Sydney, Monash University, and the University of New South Wales. Moore has authored significant monographs such as 'Speaking Language: Story of Australian English' (2008) and 'What's the Story: The History of Australian Words' (2010). He has also edited several dictionaries published by Oxford University Press, contributing to the Australian Oxford Dictionary, the Australian Concise Oxford Dictionary, and the Australian Pocket Oxford Dictionary.
