Biography

Bruno da Costa is an Associate Professor in Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Oxford's Medical Sciences Division, with a focus on developing clinical trial methods research. He co-leads a programme that serves as trial statistician for various clinical trials. His research emphasizes the comparative effectiveness of interventions in cardiovascular and musculoskeletal medicine, alongside the development of clinical research methodologies. Previously, he was a methodologist and statistician from 2009 to 2014, contributing to the design and analysis of numerous clinical trials and meta-analyses at the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine and CTU Bern, University of Bern's clinical trials unit. From 2015 to 2017, he served as head of statistics methodology in the Institute of Primary Health Care and the Department of Cardiology at the University of Bern. In 2017, da Costa became the Associate Director of the Applied Health Research Centre at the University of Toronto, later being promoted to Associate Professor in 2019 and serving as Acting Director from 2020 to 2022. He holds a PhD in Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics from the University of Bern and MSc degrees in Medical Statistics from the University of Leicester and Physiotherapy from the University of Alberta.
