Biography

Bryan McGann is a Clinical Professor of Law at Duke University, where he directs the Start-Up Ventures Clinic and the Law & Entrepreneurship Program. Since joining the Duke Law faculty in 2016, McGann has cultivated a diverse career as a lawyer, entrepreneur, and commercial banker. Prior to his academic role, he served as of-counsel at the Smith Anderson law firm in Raleigh and was part of the founding team of the Carolina Angel Network. He is the inventor and founder of the Pill Pockets® brand of pet treats, which has become a leading method for delivering medicine to animals. Under his leadership, the company was acquired by Mars, Inc. and widely commercialized across its divisions. McGann co-owns Sundial Homes, a general contracting firm focused on the development of lakefront residential properties. Additionally, he holds a U.S. patent related to a medical brace designed to aid in the rehabilitation of orthopedic patients. His previous experience includes serving as vice president at a regional commercial bank after graduating from the North Carolina School of Banking. McGann earned his LL.M. in Law & Entrepreneurship from Duke University School of Law, where he graduated magna cum laude, and his J.D. with honors from the University of North Carolina School of Law. He was an active member of the Chief Justice Holderness Moot Court Bench and received the James William Morrow, III Award. McGann is also a member of various bar associations and actively engages in community service, including coaching youth sports teams and holding leadership positions at his church and local high school.
