Biography

Bryan Schwartz holds a Bachelor of Laws from Queen's University, a Master’s degree, and a Doctorate from Yale Law School. He has been a member of the Faculty of Law at the University of Manitoba since 1981 and became the inaugural Asper Professor of International Business and Trade Law in 1999. Bryan is the author and contributor of 27 books and over 200 publications, serving as the founding general editor of the Asper Review of International Business and Trade Law. He has received numerous awards for his teaching, research, and community service. Bryan has practical experience as counsel with the Pitblado Law firm since 1994, advising on a wide variety of public and commercial law cases across various courts and tribunals, including drafting briefs and presenting oral arguments in several Supreme Court of Canada cases. His recent clients include federal, provincial, municipal, and aboriginal governments, as well as private individuals and non-profit organizations. Bryan serves as an arbitrator in international trade law cases and has experience in labour grievances, having taught labour law since 1994 and serving as an adjudicator under the Canada Labour Code.
